Instead of a minifig this morning, I have the Council of Elrond LEGO set. It’s a smallish set at 243 pieces, but it includes some nice minifigures, including Arwen Evenstar, which currently is only available in this set.
The set includes part of a Rivendell building, and a platform where the council can sit. There are three rotating chairs and a table with the One Ring in the middle. The nice bonus is that the set actually comes with three of these golden rings (there are often duplicates of small parts included with LEGO sets).
As always, I was impressed with the level of detail in this set, such as the elven sword and Sting on the weapon rack, and the roof of the elven building. The trees poking out of everywhere are also a nice touch.
The set has four minifigs in all: Elrond, Frodo Baggins, Gimli and Arwen Evenstar – she was my main motivation for getting this set (no surprise there!).
Next to the table bearing the Ring is a little surprise for anyone standing in the wrong place – a secret lever can flip any character standing there off the platform and reveal the Eye of Sauron. I thought this was a cute way to simulate Gimli getting thrown back when he attempts to destroy the ring with his axe!
I’ll be including close ups of the minifigs in this set in future Minifig Mondays.
