Building in The Sims has never been something I’ve really been into. I preferred to spend time playing with my Sims in Live Mode instead of slaving away making their homes. I’ve survived by building big boxes for my Sims, or by using the pre-existing houses and modifying them (usually poorly) to suit my needs. The Gallery in The Sims 4 has made it even easier for me to avoid building and still have amazing homes for my Sims. But recently I’ve been experimenting with building in The Sims 4, and I’ve been enjoying it.
I discovered a beginner-friendly building tutorial on Sims VIP and was rather intrigued. I then spent some time in the Sims forums looking for new challenges and discovered a massive community dedicated to building. With the help of the aforementioned building tutorials, I jumped in and tried my hand at a user-created building challenge, and ended up winning the novice section of that challenge. You can see my entry below (yup, my forum name is ShesVeryNice… that was my old Origin ID and the forums don’t seem to allow name changes…) My current Origin ID and gallery name is TriangularRoom.
This build was for a colour-themed competition. I chose green. You can check the house out on the gallery. It is by no means the best house out there, but it was my first proper build in The Sims 4, and I can’t wait to practice building some more!
Since then, I’ve attempted several other challenges and competitions, including One Room, One Week, One Theme, the Quality Control Create a Room contest, and the Under Renovation contest. There are tons more in the forums, so if you are looking for something new to try in the game, or some inspiration for great builds and other Sims-related creations, head on over to the Sims 4 Creative Corner or one of the other sections (there is still a huge Sims 3 community there too). If you’re new to the Sims forums, check out this handy thread for beginners.
